Work at MM3 Sports
A company that explains how basketball contracts are built has to get its own offers right. Every posting here carries the pay scale up front, the duties as they actually are, and the exempt or non-exempt classification stated plainly. One role is open now: a paid research internship for summer 2027.
| Role | Location | Pay scale | Class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research Intern · Summer 2027 | Remote, U.S. (Pacific time) | $24.00 to $28.00 / hr | Non-exempt |
Scales are benchmarked to San Francisco Bay Area market rates and disclosed under California pay transparency law. Remote roles are paid on the Bay Area scale wherever you live.
Before you apply
Read the site first
The fastest way to know whether this job fits you is to read what it produces. The site is a library on the business of basketball: how players are paid, what the rules say, and where every number comes from. Spend twenty minutes here before you apply. The application asks you to name one article you read and what it taught you, and the strongest answers show you looked closely.

Role 01 · Remote, U.S. (Pacific time) · Summer 2027
Basketball Business Research Intern (Paid, Summer 2027)
A paid twelve-week internship for a student who wants to learn how basketball contracts, salary caps, NIL and international transfers actually work, from the rule text up. You research, fact-check and maintain the library, directories and key figures on mm3sports.com under the founder’s supervision. You are on payroll from day one, and the work you produce is published.
Essential duties
- Fact-check articles and blog posts against primary sources: collective bargaining agreements, NCAA bylaws, FIBA regulations and league releases, logging every number to the source that proves it.
- Keep the team, college and FIBA directories and the yearly key figures page current, and flag anything that changed rather than guessing.
- Track the business calendar: rookie extension deadlines, free agency, the transfer portal, agent certification windows and draft dates, in one weekly sheet.
- Draft first versions of glossary entries, explainer sections and comparison tables for the founder to edit.
- Build salary and contract tables from public data and recompute every percentage and total before anything is published.
- Keep photo license records and credit lines in order for every image on the site.
- Turn published articles into draft Instagram captions and carousel outlines for @mm3sports.
- Complete one research project of your own by the end of the summer, presented to the founder.
What this role is not. Interns never contact, recruit or represent players, and never see client files or contract negotiations. Representation stays with the certified agent. This is a research and publishing role.
Required
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or graduating in 2027. Any major.
- Available thirty to forty hours a week for twelve weeks between June and August 2027.
- Able to work during Pacific time business hours.
- Genuine care about accuracy: you would rather ask than publish something that might be wrong.
- Discretion with unpublished work, with a confidentiality agreement on file.
- Comfortable in spreadsheets and documents. The research method and site tools are taught.
Preferred
Coursework in sports management, business, law, economics, journalism or data; work in an athletics department, on a team staff or at a student newspaper; familiarity with the NBA or WNBA collective bargaining agreement; Spanish fluency.
What you get out of it
A weekly hour with the founder on your own development, working knowledge of the NBA, WNBA, NCAA and FIBA rulebooks rather than one narrow slice, published work with your research behind it, a written reference on completion, and academic credit paperwork completed if your program requires it. Strong interns are considered first for future openings.

Compensation and how interns are paid
The scales above are the good-faith ranges the company expects to pay. Where an offer lands depends on relevant experience and demonstrated skill, not on what you earned before, which is never asked.
- Paid sick leave accrued under California law.
- Overtime at California rates for non-exempt roles.
- Paid rest breaks and an unpaid meal period as required.
- Business expenses reimbursed under Labor Code section 2802, including an internet and phone stipend for remote work.
- Academic credit paperwork completed on request.
How to apply
Use the application form, or email your resume and a short note, three or four sentences on why this role, to mckinley@mm3sports.com with the position in the subject line. No formal cover letter is required.
The process
- Every application is read in full.
- Thirty-minute video interview.
- A working conversation with the founder about a real research question from the site.
- Reference check and offer.
