Qatar basketball leagues

Checked 2026-10-31FIBA code QAT

Qatar has one national men's league of nine clubs run by the Qatar Basketball Federation, with a league stage followed by a knockout round for the title. I found no second tier on the federation site. A small women's league was launched by the federation in February 2026 with four teams, one of them a development side.

National federation: Qatar Basketball Federation.

Clubs are those named in the federation news and fixtures page. The page gives Doha only as a dateline and Al Gharafa Arena as a venue, so cities are left empty.

Nine men's clubs are named in the federation's own Round 5 match reports of 23 to 28 Oct 2026 (Al Shamal, Al Wakrah, Al Khor, Al Arabi, Al Ahli, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, Al Gharafa, Qatar SC) on the news-list page. The state news agency QNA also reported a 2026-27 start on 10 Oct with nine clubs, but QNA is not a primary source so it is not cited. The women's league 2025-26 start (Feb 2026, four teams, one non-scoring development side) was seen only in the Peninsula newspaper, so it is not cited as a field source and the women's row stays not yet verified. The federation Rules and Regulations page links only a 2026 federation statute PDF; I did not read it. Foreign-player rule and relegation not found on pages I opened.

Rules change each season and clubs apply them differently. Confirm any figure with the league or federation before you rely on it. This is education, not legal or tax advice. See a figure that is out of date? Send a correction with the source link.

Next: build your question list for a Qatar offer, work out take-home pay or read how overseas contracts work.
